Cut Off Calculator

Compute entrance cut-off scores in seconds. Use the TNEA preset for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, or build your own formula with the Custom Weights mode. Normalize marks, set weights, choose 100/200 scale, and round the result.

How It Works

  • TNEA (commonly used): Cut-off (out of 200) = Math + (Physics + Chemistry)/2 (after normalizing each to 100 if necessary). Rounding is applied at the end.
  • Custom Weights: Normalize (optional) → weight each subject → average or coefficient blend → scale to 100 or 200 → round. You can switch between "percent weights" (sum to 100) and "coefficients" (any non-negative values; we average them).

Inputs Explained

  • TNEA: Enter Math, Physics, Chemistry marks and their maxima; tool normalizes and computes out of 200 (also shows out of 100 for reference).
  • Custom: Add subjects/components with marks, maxima, and weight. Choose normalization, total scale (100/200), and rounding.
  • Weighting modes:
    • Percent weights: weights must add to 100%
    • Coefficients: any positive numbers; we compute a weighted mean

Example (TNEA)

Math 92/100, Physics 78/100, Chemistry 85/100

Cut-off (out of 200) = 92 + (78 + 85)/2 = 92 + 81.5 = 173.5 → Rounded (nearest 0.1) = 173.5

Example (Custom Weights)

Subjects & weights (percent mode, normalize ON, total=100):

  • Math 92/100, w=50
  • Physics 78/100, w=30
  • Chemistry 85/100, w=20

Weighted = 92×0.50 + 78×0.30 + 85×0.20 = 46 + 23.4 + 17 = 86.4

Cut-off = 86.4 (out of 100). If you switch total to 200 → 172.8 → Rounded (0.1) = 172.8

Tips & Notes

  • Always verify the official formula for your admission round. Some institutions round differently (nearest 0.5 or 1) and may require subject-specific rules.
  • If your board max is not 100, enable normalization (TNEA does this implicitly if maxima differ).
  • For an equal blend across multiple subjects, set equal weights in Custom Weights mode.
