Calculate Board Feet
Typical: 0-10%
How it Works
Board Feet = (Thickness × Width × Length) ÷ 144 (all in inches). For multiple boards, multiply by the number of boards. We apply an optional waste factor.
Inputs Explained
- Single Board: Enter thickness, width, length, and units.
- Multiple Boards: Enter number of boards plus dimensions and units.
- Waste Factor: Optional; add 0-10% for cuts and waste.
Example
Single Board: 2×4 (1.5×3.5×8 ft):
Convert to inches: 1.5 × 3.5 × 96
Board Feet = (1.5 × 3.5 × 96) / 144 ≈ 3.5 BF
Multiple Boards: 10 boards, 2×4:
Total BF = 3.5 × 10 = 35 BF

Tips & Notes
- Nominal dimensions (e.g., 2×4) are larger than actual sizes; use actual dimensions for accuracy.
- Add a waste factor (0–10%) for cuts and waste.
- Use the preset buttons for common lumber sizes.
FAQs
Multiply thickness, width, and length (in inches), then divide by 144. The calculator does this automatically.
A board foot is a volume of 144 cubic inches (12 in × 12 in × 1 in).
It supports both. Choose your units for inputs.
