Calculation Summary:

How It Works

Different boards and universities use different CGPA→% rules. This tool supports common presets and a custom linear formula (a×CGPA + b). If your CGPA is on a 4‑point (or other) scale, we first normalize it to a 10‑point scale, apply the formula, and round.

Presets Explained:

  • Generic ×9.5: Percentage = CGPA(10‑scale) × 9.5 (used historically by some boards)
  • Generic ×10: Percentage = CGPA × 10 (many universities)
  • (x − 0.5) × 10: Percentage = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 (seen in some institutions)

For custom rules, use the a and b fields. Only use formulas your institution officially publishes.

Inputs Explained

CGPA / Percentage
Enter your number; choose the correct scale (10/4/5/7/custom)
Formula Preset
Pick a common rule or choose Custom (a, b)
Decimals
Choose how many digits to show (0–2)
Reverse Conversion
Switch to the "Percentage → CGPA" tab to invert the mapping

Examples

Example 1: CGPA → Percentage

Given: CGPA 8.9 on 10‑point scale; preset ×9.5

Calculation: Percentage = 8.9 × 9.5 = 84.55%

Result: 84.55%

Example 2: CGPA on 4-point scale

Given: CGPA 3.4 on 4‑point scale; preset ×10

Step 1: Normalize: cgpa_10 = (3.4 / 4) × 10 = 8.5

Step 2: Percentage = 8.5 × 10 = 85.00%

Result: 85.00%

Example 3: Custom Formula

Given: CGPA 8.2; Custom a=9.8, b=1.0

Calculation: Percentage = (9.8 × 8.2) + 1.0 = 80.36 + 1.0 = 81.36%

Result: 81.36%

Tips & Notes

  • Always check your university/board notification for the exact conversion formula.
  • Normalizing across scales: we convert to a 10‑point CGPA before applying the preset/custom rule.
  • If your result exceeds 100% or is negative, review your formula or inputs—most official rules keep results within 0–100%.
  • Use the Share Link feature to save your calculation settings in the URL for future reference.
  • This calculator works entirely in your browser—no data is sent to our servers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Use the rule your university/board publishes. If unsure, ask your exam office. Common general rules are ×9.5 or ×10, but they are not universal.

Yes. Use the Percentage → CGPA tab. We invert linear formulas (ax + b) safely (a ≠ 0).

Yes. Select Scale Max = 4. We normalize to 10-scale first, then apply the formula.

No. It's an informational tool. Always verify with your official handbook.

If your result exceeds 100% or is negative, review your formula or inputs—most official rules keep results within 0–100%.

Yes. Select 'Custom Linear (ax + b)' from the formula dropdown and enter your values for a and b. Only use formulas your institution officially publishes.

If your CGPA is on a non-10 scale (like 4.0 or 5.0), we first convert it to a 10-point scale: cgpa_10 = (cgpa / max_scale) × 10, then apply the selected formula.
